Concrete Ways to Plug in

Get connected and take action

Start with one action that feels doable today. Small actions, taken together, build the community power we need to defend, strengthen, and invest in Texas public schools.

Share our ATX116 newsletter to neighbors, fellow parents, educators, friends, and community members. It’s full of info and resources for deeper dives. The more people who understand what’s at stake, the stronger our collective voice becomes.

Stay Connected to Your School Community

Reach out to teachers, staff, and administrators at your campus. A potential takeover can be especially stressful for those working in schools. Strengthening relationships now lets educators know they have a trusted community that will show up for them.

Find a Buddy and Plug In

Advocacy is a marathon, not a sprint. One meaningful action each week is more sustainable than trying to do everything at once and burning out. If you aren’t yet connected to a local group, reach out to ATX116 — we’re happy to help.

Attend a Community Event

Showing up matters. Join an upcoming community meeting, listening circle, or advocacy event to learn, ask questions, build relationships, and connect with others who care about public education.

Contact Your State Legislators

Your elected officials need to hear from you. Find your state legislators, then call or email them. Ask them to oppose takeovers, increase the basic allotment, fund schools based on enrollment, fully fund mandates, and address the recapture formula.

Host a Conversation

Help friends and neighbors get up to speed by hosting a local gathering at your home, school, or community space. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy. A small conversation can spark awareness and action. And we have a toolkit to guide you every step of the way!

Support Pro-Public Ed Candidates

Elections shape education policy. Gina Hinojosa is running for Governor in 2026 and has committed to replacing current TEA Commissioner Mike Morath, pausing accountability ratings, and working to make Texas teachers among the highest paid in the country.
